Assistant Maker On 'Maleficent'

August saw me working on the upcoming Disney blockbuster 'Maleficent', starring Angelina Jolie in the lead role as the evil fairy who casts the 100-year spell on Sleeping Beauty. It is scheduled for release in 2014.
Although my payslips read 'leather worker', I was hired as costume making assistant to do a number of various jobs in the department that made Ms. Jolie's costumes exclusively. One day I was involved in shape wear and moulding, the next day killer heels, the next blocking and shaping leather over the Angelina dummy, and so forth. I got around the different departments, sewing, casting, modelling etc.
It was a great opportunity and foot-in-the door experience for me, as well as incredibly long, intense hours. I learned loads, and I'm very keen to do more film work.

Tiny Dungarees for Mila

My sister gave birth to my little new niece today, 18/08/12. I'm such a proud and happy uncle!
I made her these cool denim dungarees, (not ordered by her mum months ago at all) though it will probably be a while before they will fit her, as she is one tiny girl. One thing is for sure though: she is going to be a right little dress-up doll with an uncle like me!

Hot Blue Biker Suit

A private customer wanted me to replicate an old biker suit in rubber. It is cut on a classic motor biking suit, complete with padded shoulders, elbows, back, hips and knees. Maybe not for serious racing, but it looks cool:

We're in The Water - Delinquent

I made a few pieces for this photo shoot for Fil OK's new music project 'We're In The Water', Featuring Fil OK himself (far left) and some of the vocalists from the album. The debut CD 'Delinquent' is available to download at iTunes and Amazon from Monday 25th of June 2012.
The shirt with the swirly bits at the front, the scaly top, and tulle sleeves and head piece were made by me.

Spandex - It's The New Latex

Here's a little teaser for a costume I made for artist Adam Christensen's next art video (working title 'Eyes Of Blood'), featuring a gorgeous spandex-clad super heroine, played by fine artist and aerialist Sidsel Christensen.
This is also the very first project made with my brand-new overlocker, and I can already feel that me and my machine have a very intense and passionate relationship ahead of us. Spandex/stretch is an amazing material to work with, more catsuits to come!

Guest Teaching at AFUK

I was recently invited to be a guest teacher at AFUK (The Academy For Untamed Creativity) in Copenhagen for the last week of March. It was an incredibly interesting week, and I hope the students learned as much as I did. Having attended numerous art and design schools and courses in London and Copenhagen over the years, it was challenging and exciting to suddenly be the teacher, especially as I used to go to this school myself, back in 2003.

My week was spent with the 'Idea & Design' department, led by the lovely and inspiring Maria, Johan and Dorthe, and Rabbia doing work experience.
I introduced myself by talking about my life as a creative and a designer, while showing images of my work.

I had prepared a couple of assignments for them, as well as showing them films and images for inspiration. Every afternoon I gave an introduction to working with latex rubber, and some of the students made some fun and creative stuff over the week.

For the first two-day assignment, I asked them to bring an object for Monday morning. The task was then to make a cover, a bag or some sort of container for their chosen thing.

The second, three-day project was to make an object or a piece of clothing that could either collapse/fold up, or one that could be altered into something else.

It was incredibly satisfying to find myself in a situation where I could be an inspiration to other young creatives, and I would love to do something like this again.

Freelance, with a capital FREE!

I have two weeks left at my current day job (or six working days to be precise), followed by a week of guest teaching in Copenhagen. Then after that, I'm officially freelance, with a capital FREE! It's exciting, scary and will probably be quite rocky to begin with, although I have projects lined up 'til well into June. I am really looking forward to the freedom and the self-government, 9 - 5 just isn't me, and it has been killing me slowly over the last couple of years.
I'm not sure 'headhunted' is the right word, but I have been kindly approached by a company (big, multinational, prosperous; still hush-hush, so no name/further details yet) who are very keen to work with me, and that I am equally looking forward to be collaborating with. These people are so creative and visionary, and you can really tell that they absolutely LOVE what they do, as well as being incredibly nice and easy going people. These are qualities that I have really been missing in my current position, and the number 1 reason that I am leaving. I am finished giving my creative genius to people who at the end of the day don't really care, while they just sit back and wait for the money to roll in, no matter how much they pay me.
I have already had a couple of meetings with this new company, and every time, I have left there inspired, creatively invigorated, and with a happy spring in my step.
ROLL ON SPRING, ROLL ON FUTURE!!!

-These pics have nothing whatsoever to do with this post, but they all inspire me and make me smile at the moment. Number three from the top is my nephew/niece, due in July/August. I can't wait!
